  • Hello, I am enquiring in regard to a set of wembley ware naked lady bookends. Can you please advise if both bookends would have the wembley ware markings on the bottom.

I had one bookend and purchased the other on ebay to complete the set, however, the one I purchased is not marked wembley ware on the base.

I look forward to your reply.

    Tony

  • HI I have in amazingly perfect condition a pair of pale yellow/pale green lustre unfilled bookends. I received them as a wedding present in Nov 1953 – is there a market for sale of these and if so how much should I be expecting? Or where do I go for more information as I cant seem to find anything like this on ebay gumtree etc?
    Regards Mollie

  • Hi I have a wembley ware dufish seafood platter in excellent condition the fish isnt attached to the platter how do I find out how much it is worth

  • Hello there,
today I purchased a set of bookends at a garage sale as well as some other wonderful purchases.
The old lady owner has dementia and her niece was selling off her possessions for her as she had no children of her own and was going into a nursing home.
Any way I spotted a pair book ends that looked interesting.
They are of a tall slim lady in a type of 50s style swim suit lying on her back with her legs up as bookends.
They are of a creamy white lustre type look.
They are about 28cms in height.
I paid $20 for them as a pair.
The set does not have any chips or cracks they are in absolute perfect condition.
I didn’t know they were Wembleyware until I got home and saw that one had a wembley ware sticker attached.
I then wondered if they might be worth something. I have scoured the internet but cannot find any information on them whatsoever.
I was wondering if you may be able to give me some approx valuation and where best to maybe sell them if I can bring myself to give them up.

    • Hello Gaynor.
The Wembley Ware bookends are lovely and were made in the 1940s to 1950s period, in their factory in Subiaco Western Australia. Some say that they were made as door-stops actually, but I certainly wouldn’t want to keep them on the floor! Wembley Ware is very collectable and most of it is bought and sold in antique shops, at auction, and on eBay. Therefore it is not possible for us to put a definite value on items.
But we do have some guides to the prices. The internet auction eBay is an excellent guide and you will see the range of prices reached for various items and draw your own conclusions. A helpful book for collectors is ‘The Wembley Ware Collector’s Price Guide’ written by Paul Bisby in 2007. The author gives the highest sale price achieved for each of about 240 items, in the period up to 2007.
To quote from Bisby’s book the Bookends price $1,250.00 date 24/3/2005.
What a great start to a Wembley Ware collection! You might like to join the Wembley Ware Society and receive a regular newsletter with lots of interesting information on the china and associated events. See the website for more information or email info@wembleyware.org

  • I have a large dhufish vase which belonged to my mother. Any market for it in the UK? Presumably it was given to her by my uncle who lived in Australia.

    • Hello Susan, It is interesting just how much Wembley Ware has found its way to the UK. Perhaps not so surprising as many of the original potters and ceramic artists who joined the factory in its early days had come across from England to work in the china factory. They would no doubt take pieces of the china with them when they returned home for a visit, or send pieces to their relatives as gifts. And of course many of the items would be terrific souvenirs for the travellers of the time.
I don’t know of any Wembley Ware collectors living in the UK myself and would think that there would not be a great market for your vase over there. Being made about the 1950s I expect the vase has appeal in many places as a retro item too. If you were to advertise it on eBay, it would be useful to add the cost for postage to Australia to assist Australian buyers. Thank you for your message.
