Tunnel Kiln
DECEMBER 2010
TUNNEL KILN MOVED ON THE AFC Site
Brisbane & Wunderlich’s No. 1 KILN was the first one of its type in the world. In 2012 there is no sign of either the No. 1 Kiln or the No.2 Kiln which used to sit side by side on the site prior to the redevelopment.
In early December 2010 the huge task of cutting and moving the kiln to another position on the site commenced. The pieces of the No.1 Tunnel Kiln are to be reinstalled on the site. SEE VIDEO

Factory Site
AUGUST 2012
The re-development of the site is well-advanced with roads and paths formed, grass and gardens planted and Public Art in place.
High wire fencing surrounds the large block with locked gates preventing admission at this stage. Expressions of interest which were sought months ago have not resulted in any building activity to date.
JANUARY 2011
The redevelopment of the site where the pottery factory once stood in Hay Street, Subiaco ,is well underway. The old tunnel-kiln has been cut up and removed from the site, but is expected to be reinstalled prominently on the site.
In response to the Wembley Ware Society’s call for a Museum to be built on the AFC site, the former CEO of the Subiaco Redevelopment Authority has indicated Lot 207 on the site plans would be suitable for a Wembley Ware Museum. For this proposal to be advanced discussions between the City of Subiaco and the SRA will have to be held.
Members of the Wembley Ware Society are counting on the MRA and the City of Subiaco to discuss potential space available on the AFC site for a Museum or Interpretative Centre to display the varieties of china which were produced on the site over the years.

John Tribe
WEMBLEY WARE ARTIST
John Tribe 1904 – 1974
John Tribe was a gifted artist and was responsible for many of the better-quality Wembley Ware pieces.
John Tribe was born in England in 1904, and came to Australia in 1925.
Between stints working at the cattle-stations in the far north of Western Australia, he showed his talents in the fine arts. John Tribe married in 1939.
Ill health plagued him and in 1946 he was encouraged to continue with painting and modelling during an extended period in hospital.
John Tribe modelled most of the well-known and delightful pieces of Wembley Ware. These include the koala, kookaburra, owl, magpie and dhufish.
John Tribe held fourteen exhibitions of his paintings and sketches in Perth, twice winning the Claude Hotchin prize for Oils and Waterclour.
Some rare unsigned Wembley Ware display plates which were individually decorated with Australian scenes by John Tribe are known to exist.
