  • Hi everyone,
Do any of you have an owl lamp? My lamp has TRIBE impressed at the bottom of it’s right wing and I am trying to find out whether this is a usual feature or not so usual. The only other lamp that I have seen up close did not have the impression. Will be interested in your comments.

    • Hi Veronica sorry it has taken so long for a reply to your question regarding your owl lamp.
We have one but I have not seen or heard of one having “Tribe” inscribed into the mould (or is it mold)!!
May I ask you if it has been in the family or did you purchase it somewhere?
Sorry I cannot be of more help but maybe one of the other members can shed some light on it for you.

      • Hi Lee, thanks for your reply, your comments were helpful. I bought the lamp 18-20 yrs. ago from a 2nd hand shop, not because it was Wembley Ware, but because it was an owl. I hadn’t heard of W.W. at the time but the shop lady told me a bit about it and I bought a couple of other items from her when they turned up. Now, with a poss. overseas move later this yr., I have decided to sell my pieces, and have advertised my lge. Dhufish vase on Gumtree. I haven’t seen many owl lamps advertised over the years, but those that I have seen have never mentioned the Tribe mark, so I got to wondering if it was such a common feature that it wasn’t worth mentioning, or whether it was v. unusual. I know prices very from one piece to another, but it would be good to have some idea of the value, I also wonder what the mark signifies. You say that you haven’t come across this mark before, and that is a good start, and if anyone else has had a good look at other lamps, I will welcome their observations. Thanks again, Veronica.

        • Hi again Veronica any chance of a picture?
          We are
          tinkandmo@westnet.com.au
The owl lamps were going from $300 – $500 but as you say there hasn’t been much around lately and if it is signed Tribe (who was an artist for Wembley Ware) I daresay it would be worth more.
On having said that it all depends on who wants it for their collection and how much they are willing to pay.

  • It’s a New Year! I hope it’s a good one for all of you.

Let’s hear about any new additions to your Wembley Ware collections.

I’d like to know whether anyone can remember seeing Wembley Ware used in their homes, or grandparents homes?
Did people really put flowers in the dhufish vase? And did they use the Wembley Ware ashtrays or were they just ornaments?
I wonder if anyone has a new use for their Wembley Ware?

    Susan :)

    • My mother in law had loads of Wembley ware , now that I have seen this site, the fan shaped vase with ducks I think, 2 platters, 1 with crayfish and 1 with a rabbit and a couple of horsey ashtrays, all well used!! and that was just the day to day used pieces. The horse ashtrays had damaged ears from being washing and tipped upside on the sink to drain!!

Not on to the reason I checked out the site….
I ahve been given a piece to sell for a freind, it has a black Wembley ware printed stamp on the reverse, its a beige/fawn rabbit on a lettuce plate and the entire piece has a lovely lustre. There is one tiny little flea bite/chip on the edge of the lettuce.
The only one I have seen in lustre was sold for $140, does this price seem overly high? She is not out to make a killing, just to get a good price for the piece :)

      Regards

      Liz
