  • I have two, large fish vases for sale. They are both in very good used condition – no chips, cracks or crazing.
The only minor fault is two, very small areas of miss glazing, where the underneath colour is visible. Quite hard to spot, but I thought they should be mentioned. They are not identical in colour.
Please ‘phone 9401.6119 (Hillarys) if you would like to see them with a view to buying.

  • FOR SALE – MAORI CHIEF ASHTRAY – Wembley Ware. Excellent condition. $3,500.00 (Aus.)
For more information contact John: 22egg7@gmail.com

The ashtray features a Maori Warrior in the position to present a chanllenge to a visitor on the marae. The features are finely detailed with a border showing koru (fern fronds). Instead of holdong the traditional rautapu (offering of friendship) the warrior holds a patu or greenstone club (a weapon).
The ashtray is extremely provocative from a cultural point of view as the act of using the ashtray could be offensive by Maori. The item is am excellent example of attitudes to maori inthe period when the ashtray was made, and as such indicates the considerable progress in race relationships since that period.

  • Hi,
I’m just inquiring about a Kissing budgies ash tray that was left to by my grandmother.
I have found many of them on the internet but I have noticed that my budgies are painted differently, it is in reverse to every one I have seen.
The bird with the tilted head is actually blue and not green like all others I have seen.
Could you tell me if this is a mistake that was made when it was made and does it add or detract from the value

    • Hello Jess. I think that eBay auctions are a very good guide to the popularity of various Wembley Ware items. The usual Wembley Ware budgies ashtray comes up for sale fairly regularly. There is one for sale on eBay at the moment starting at $199.00. Your ashtray with the budgies in reverse is not so common and one of these sold on eBay in March for $240.00. There does seem to be evidence of the reverse painted budgies being worth a bit more than the standard design.

I hope all enquirers about values of items are aware that it is possible to do a search on eBay for sales that have closed i.e. past sales.
Just click on the ‘Advanced Search’ and use the ‘completed listings’ option.

  • I purchased a wembley warhe piece… “The man who would lead trumps” could some one give me an idea of the value…it’s in reasonable condition…thanks David

    • Hello David
As always I need to state that it is not possible to give a valuation on any item as the prices fluctuate so much. Quite simply an item is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

I heard of someone paying $3,500:00 for a Wembley Ware ‘tramp on the bench’ which is another name for this item. And I have seen a newspaper article which priced this item at $4,500.00.
An item in top condition will be worth more than an item with damage such as cracks, chips or crazing. Regards, Susan

  • Hi, I have a 23cm seagull dish as per your website photo. It is lustre no chips or repairs. A tiny spot on the beak is missing some colour. There is no backstamp or any identifying details although it looks exactly like the one online. Were there copies made through other companies? I would like to know if this type of Wembley ware is collectable and the value of this item as I am wanting to sell it. Thanks in anticipation, Janet

    • Hello Janet
It is possible that your seagull dish is Wembley Ware and it could have had a maker’s sticker attached to it originally. Wembley Ware made two styles of Seagull dishes. The seagulls are not a rare item. A photo of the item including the base is useful to assist with identification. All Wembley Ware items are collectable although a collector wont be as interested in an item with damage, and this could affect the price. I suggest that you have a look at eBay to get an idea of prices being paid for various pieces. Ebay is a popular place for buyers and sellers of Wembley Ware. I hope this helps. Susan

  • Hi, I have just purchased a piece of Wembley Ware, it is a Native Stockman, like the one pictured on your website, I would like to know if possible what its value might be, and what year it was made? You help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • What a great job the shopkeepers did with their displays, they looked fantastic. Nothing like a whole lot of fish posy vases wearing glasses to bring a smile to your face. Well done to all involved.

    • Thank you Charles. I am happy to advise that the winners ( yes there was a tie ! ) of the most popular Wembley Ware Week 2013 display were EYE Q (with the fantail fish) and BELLA HART (with the handpainted Roses Plate). Both retailers have been given a copy of John Thomson’s book ‘Calyx, Wembley Ware and Bristile China’.
Thank you to everyone involved in this very special Subiaco event.

  • May I offer my congratulations to Susan Wann and the Wembley Ware Society for organising an excellent meeting at the Subiaco Library to mark the commencement of Wembley Ware Week?
The two guest speakers, Dirk Meier and Ted Leonard were obviously well received and generated a number of questions and comments. Ted Leonard spoke passionately in favour of the work you are doing to preserve the china and memories of the factory that produced Wembley Ware.
The success of your approach is epitomised by the big increase in visitors from all over the world to the website and the enthusiastic response to the meeting. You are also generating many enquiries on the Wembley Ware Forum.
    Best Wishes
    Charles Todd
