  • HI I have a hand painted wembley ware vase and is signed by G McQueen can anyone tell me if this is an original piece and did G McQueen paint any other pieces or was this done after the vase was made

  • I have 2 apricot colour sundae cups to sell and was just wondering what they may be worth. They are in perfect condition no chips, cracks nothing.

    • Hi Julia they go from about $10 upwards.
Either put them on ebay or gumtree or we are having a meeting
in Shenton Park on Saturday 22nd Feb if you would like to bring
them and see if any of the members are interested.

  • Dear Members,

I am selling my parents extensive collection of Wembley Ware , Campbell,Mchugh,Boyd etc.
Gerry and Betty Blinco were collectors of Australian pottery for over 30 years and collected some rare treasures
which I would like to sell as lots to serious admirers of the various potteries.

If there are any members who would like to buy the wembley collection please contact me at cherax@bigpond.com

    Regards Trev

It was great to catch up with friends.
Wishing you all a wonderful healthy and happy new year.

  • Well the society had a lovely surprise today.
Two little cerise swans came in the mail, donated by Lynette Walters.
The swans had belonged to her Aunt and Uncle who lived in Queensland
and were in their nineties when they passed away.
Another treasured piece of Wembley history for the Society.
A photo will be published in our February newsletter.

would love to hear from you.

  • Hello,
I have become the blessed owner of a Wembley Ware dinner set including: dinner plates, side plates, bowls, tea cups, saucers, and 2 sizes of jugs.

Together I have about 100 pieces, including representations from 3 different estates.

I got the bulk of this for $300 from an antique shop and have been gradually adding to it via ebay.

I’d be really interested in having this lot valued, can someone suggest where I can get this done?

    Many thanks, Elisha

    • Hi Elisha – how lovely – any more information on colour etc would be great for the readers.
Also what state are you in and someone may be able to point you in the right direct for a valuation.
Any comments from members would be appreciated and how are you all going with the crossword??
Look forward to hearing from anyone.
      Lee

  • Hi everyone – wow what a newsletter – brilliant – good on you Nan.
Now the crossword – have any of you completed it yet.
Must admit that Mo and I are stumped on a couple of them.
Let us know how you go.
Come on – don’t be shy – give us a post!!!
Christmas is coming up faster and faster every year – are you all in control
or is your schedule so full you have lost all control!!!
Hope to hear from some of you
    Lee

    • Hi all – well Mo and I have cracked the crossword…………..
Took a lot of brain work – a lot of laughs – a lot of hair pulling – and
      some light bulbs popping!!!!!!!!!
Come on peeps – give it a go and let us know.

  • Anyone interested in the mermaid please email us and we will pass it onto Ray
    Lee

  • Hello,
Today i found at a garage sale a Wembley ware Mermaid figurine ( not with shell ashtray )
the condition is mint ,with only very slight crazing to the clear glaze underneath. I have tried to find this figurine in carters price guides and online ie: eBay current & completed listings and i have only found the mermaid with the ashtray ,the most recent with a large chip which sold for $147.00, and i was wondering if this figurine may be a rare item and could you give me a fair idea of price range….?
    Regards Ray

    • Hi Ray – nice find.
The mermaids come up every now and then.
Sometimes with the float bowl and other times on their own.
They are not rare but like all Wembley pieces you see a lot of them and then there is a bit of a drought!!
Unfortunately due to some people taking our (the committee’s) estimates as gospel we can no longer advise anyone on price.
Other Wembley ware members may like to comment.
Perhaps you could take it to an antique dealer and ask them what they would give you for it or take a punt and put it on ebay for a bit more than what you paid for it and let the market decide the price.
Anyone reading this post would probably like to know the colour Ray.
      Hope this helps
      Lee

      • Hi Lee,
Thanks For your quick response which was a great help.
when you mentioned float bowl, i knew that’s how i had seen this mermaid before.
I can certainly understand the the issues the committee has with giving estimates.
the antiques and collectables market can be very fickle.
I did not know the mermaid came in various colourways, hence not mentioning the colour.!
I would describe her colour as very pale peach/flesh tone on pale green base with a gentle lustre glaze.
also Lee are the float bowls one piece or is the bowl and mermaid two separate pieces.
        Cheers Ray

        • Ray there were a huge amount of colours done – all different shades and variations.
The float bowls also known as the Richmond bowl came in colours ranging from orange to teal, to mauve and everything else in between.
Some of the shops sold them as sets and others sold them mix and match or individually.
          Your mermaid sounds lovely.
The price list for the 1st July 1958 states the mermaid sold for 8 shillings and sixpence and the Richmond bowl (lustre) 25 shillings and threepence.
The mermaids seem to be more scarce than the bowls but that could be the bowls were bought
without the mermaid in the first place.
Is she a keeper or a seller?
Can you send a photo to
Wembley@westnet.com.au (no capitals in the address – this computer puts them in automatically!)
and we can forward them onto members to see if anyone is interested.
Hope this helps please ask as many questions as you like and we will endeavour to answer them for you.
          Lee
          Committee Member

          • Hi Lee,
I have emailed 2 photos of the mermaid and as you will see she is what i would consider to be mint condition. she has the impressed Wembley ware mark which is only faintly visible.
Sorry i didn’t think to photograph the base .?
I have collected quality pottery & porcelain for over thirty years and sold many collections individually and complete ….including many of pieces of wembley .
As I have not had this piece before my research has given me only a slight idea as to what this piece may be worth, But I am open to offers and my expectations are realistic and fair, we all know everyone loves a bargain. :)
            thanks again
